prescription drugMedicare Part D – Prescription Drug Coverage

Medicare Part D is also known as prescription drug coverage. You do not need to enroll in Medicare Part D when you contact the Social Security office to enroll in Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B. Instead, you can buy Medicare Prescription Drug coverage through a certified insurance agency like ours. You can sign up for a Part D plan when you are turning 65 and you also get an opportunity once a year to switch plans if you ever want to.

How Much Does Part D Cost?

Part D generally costs between $18 to $40 per month for a basic plan or up to $60 or $80 for an enhanced plan. As you would guess, this type of coverage helps with the cost of prescription drugs. Almost all pharmacies accept Part D coverage.

Which Part D Provider is the Best?

If you are taking any prescription drugs while enrolling in Medicare, then be sure to choose a plan based on the availability of those drugs in the plan you choose. There is a very useful tool on Medicare.gov that allows you to enter your prescriptions and dosages into their system and determine which Part D plan is best for you.

Some people might find that the Walmart / Humana plan (which is generally the lowest cost) is the best. Another popular plan is the CVS SilverScript plan. You can do the research yourself on Medicare.gov or you can contact us and we can do the research for you. We can also check to make sure plans are accepted at your favorite pharmacy.
